The story of Ultimate Frisbee begins with the rise of the Frisbee itself. The Frisbee, originally known as the "Pluto Platter," was invented in the late 1940s by Walter Frederick Morrison and Warren Franscioni. Morrison, a World War II veteran, and Franscioni were inspired by a pie tin they used to toss back and forth on a beach in Southern California. The duo improved the design and material, eventually creating the plastic flying disc we know today.
